model space ship

Friday, May 29th, 2009

When buying collector’s models, always be attentive to details. Mint condition model space ship means that it is in perfect condition. Even the box should be as you would have bought it from the store. No smudges, the printing is clear and there are no tapes. The value of a mint condition never opened piece is so much higher that the value of a mint condition opened piece.

Some model kits are sold started but not finished. The one selling it must have decided that putting together a model toy is not for him. He must have found following instructions too tedious. The cutting and gluing must have gotten to him. He probably thought it was better to sell it through eBay to get part of his money back.

Having a rambunctious toddler can sometimes drive any new mother crazy. My two-year-old is so energetic and impatient, I sometimes wonder if he is hyper active. Living in a small apartment does not help, I’m thankful that in our courtyard are childrens outdoor toys. These toys allow me a breathe of fresh air, literally. I take my son down to the playground at least three to four times a week to help burn of some of his excess energy and hopefully burn of some of my excess fat as well.

I am also grateful that the traditional staple of children’s outdoor toys are all in our courtyard. There’s the slide, the see-saw, the swings, and the monkey bars. What more can a mother ask for? Spending those precious few minutes with my son in the mornings playing are priceless for me. I have vowed to be there the first time he can swing by himself and hang on to the monkey bars by himself.

We often hear people say that children nowadays have become so captivated with electronic toys that they are missing on the learning value that can be gleaned from the creative childrens toy. I remember how my brother labored over a kite made of newspaper. There was some help from my father but it was mostly him who cleaned the bamboo stick, glued the paper to the stick and pasted a long tail. I remember also the look of satisfaction on his face when the kite flew a few feet but fell unceremoniously to the ground. It was his moment of glory.

He also made a toy telephone by attaching two empty milk cans with a long piece of string. When you talked loudly into one can another can listen from the other can place near his ears. They had a lot of fun making funny sounds. These were just some of the little projects that might have tickled their creativity. These were not original ideas but the fact that they made it themselves made it their very own creative ideas.
