Nintendo Game Cube games

Friday, February 27th, 2009

As an avid collector of video games, I’ve kept myself updated with every development that took place. I’ve gone from Atari joysticks to “family computers” and now, those Nintendo Game Cube games. It’s fun to chronicle the changes that have been made, most especially when it comes to graphics and screen quality.

Before, we were just content to see Pac Man gobbling up its enemies in green, pink, and white against a black background. Then Mario and Luigi came along with their chimneys, mushrooms, and blue skies. Then when computers moved up to Windows and we can all play Solitaires even without a table, I had the best time playing Final Fantasy. FF was a blast, especially since it came with a really good soundtrack. As graphics and music in games pushed things further, games have become really sophisticated, even for a simple Tetris game.

stuffed animal

Wednesday, February 25th, 2009

Little kids derive comfort from soft things - pillows, blankets and plush toys. Some children even have a favorite stuffed animal that they prefer sleeping with at night. In the olden days, stuffed animals were just homemade cloth dolls stuffed with straw, beans or cotton. On the more macabre side, hunted animals that were processed through taxidermy were also classified as stuffed animals.

At present, various stuffed toys come in myriad of designs, colors and fillings. Most are now produced using synthetic materials and are available from the very small to huge toys bigger than babies. So far, teddy bears remain the most popular types in classic stuffed animals.

Stuffed toys come in all shapes and sizes. The teddy bear is considered the traditional representation of the stuffed toy. This toy is so popular with the kids that it evolved into an array of many different kinds. The reason kids don’t get tired of it is because there is one in a new style of dress or representation every time. Those made collections grow and grow.

Coming up with unique stuffed teddy bears must be the inspiration of toy manufacturers. Creative artists are hired to produce the most beautiful and not before seen versions of the teddy bear. It could be clothed in a new material or decorated with cute embroidery. It might carry a beautiful message. Most important of all, it should be worthy to be yet another addition to the child’s collection.

building blocks

Toy catalogs will list playthings for the toddler, the school age child or the teenager. The toddler will enjoy playing with building blocks, puzzles or coloring books. The bright colors will interest the child. Their many shapes and colors help develop hand and eye coordination while feeding the brain with new things. Always remember to check for pointed or removable parts that can be harmful.

The older child will appreciate toys that they can put together. They will specially be challenged by assembled toys that move. When buying toys for assembly, make sure that it will not require complicated tools and that the instructions are simple enough for the age of the child. Read the instructions carefully and discuss with the child before beginning to work. That is one way to avoid disappointments.

roller skate shoes

Tuesday, February 24th, 2009

I’m a late comer when it comes to “rolling.” I was already in fifth grade before I finally got to try a pair or roller skate shoes. I had tried rollerblades but couldn’t get the hang of it; I couldn’t find my balance and my feet always felt as if they were going to fold.

I definitely liked using the roller skate shoes better. I can better spread my balance on the sole, since they’re just like roller skates. I don’t really make wide movements or go for speed, so they’re just ideal for moving around. And since they’re shoes, they were more comfortable to wear, unlike the hard plastic casing of the inline skates. I usually use them on cool breezy days, so I could find the wind on me.

gas airsoft rifle

Monday, February 23rd, 2009

To the more discriminating airsoft fanatics, gas-powered airsoft is the more powerful choice. A gas airsoft rifle is the best weapon for long range combat. Because it is powered by gas, it can deliver a stronger punch than an electric type. For long range shooting, you can be sure of a producing a longer projectile using gas powered rifles.

In a tactical team, sniper units should have the most powerful punches in weapons to cover longer ranges. However, a gas airsoft rifle is also popular as a short range semi-auto rifle because the compressed gas can provide a realistic blowback action. The gas used is either CO2 or green gas feed that is stored in the magazine chamber or in ammunition casings.

finger puppets

Friday, February 20th, 2009

As a preschool teacher, I often have the not so easy task of keeping my students entertained and occupied. A bored class equals a chaotic class. This is why I have a whole bunch of finger puppets. I use them during story-telling or as object lessons. When I do, my students are all enraptured and captivated.

There’s a wide range of finger puppets available. They’re very affordable and most of them are easy to clean. I find it very helpful that by just putting on a finger puppet show, I can effectively teach my students the day’s lessons. A finger puppet can also help encourage interaction between my students. Such big results from such small things.
