A longboard skateboard, just like its name suggests, is a type of skateboard that is significantly longer than a traditional skateboard. The length and certain differences in basic design allow for a kind of skateboarding called “longboarding”, which is very much similar to surfing or snowboarding. A longboard is sometimes referred to as a downhill longboard because this type of skateboard is designed for the descent of a hill, slides, carves, manual, or “dancing” with the board.

Most longboards measure between 84 to 150 centimeters. Longboards are available in several shapes such as pintails, flat nose riders, drop through decks, drop decks, and boards with the same shape as a standard skateboard. Pintails are designed to permit looser trucks and larger wheels which are better suited for carving, while drop decks and drop throughs allow the rider to be closer to the ground, providing a lower center of gravity to support more downhill riding.

Skateboarding is more than just a hobby, or even just a sport. It has already become a lifestyle for plenty of people all over the world. Skateboarders are not content with just pulling any skateboard off of the shelf, they often want to build their own skateboards. To build a skateboard, certain supplies will definitely be needed. These include the deck, trucks, skateboard wheels, bearings, grip tape, and mounting hardware.

Some tools are required to be able to build your own skateboard as well. Once the tools and parts are ready, it is time to start working on the deck. The next step after this would be the application of the grip tape. The last step would be the mounting of the wheels. These steps are simple enough for anyone to build their own skateboard. You only need the patience and interest in creating your own unique board to be able to do this.

A Most Wonderful Time

What a most wonderful time of the year! That’s what they say about Christmas. So even with the summer months just approaching, some people are already thinking how fast time flies and before you know it we hit the “ber” months. Who could blame them? Christmas is such a fun filled event which involves different activities for different people.

Once the “ber” months hit, there’s shopping for the shopaholics, parties to plan for the party organizers, wrapping of gifts for the artistic, baking of goodies for the cooks. And of course the kids! Choosing and opening of gifts is such a wonderful activity. Oh, and how about the “historians”, the ones who like to photograph or videotape the different activities that go around – like capturing the joy in a little boy’s face when he unwraps a gift and it’s a wonderful shiny skateboard? Christmas has a little something for everyone, or probably a big something for each and every one!

Bad Boy

When I was growing up my favorite toy was my skateboard. I would go to school with it. I wasn’t very good at it but I think I look cool carrying it around school. Actually, I would carry it most of the way and only use it a few blocks from my school. That’s how bad I was. Anyway, I love my old skateboard. That’s why I was so happy and proud when my son asked me to get him one. We ended up getting a Bamboo Longboard.

The Bamboo Longboard barely resembles my skateboard of old. It is about double the size in both with and length. Because of this the Longboard is very stable. Surprisingly, it is very light for its size. It is also very responsive. I love using it when my wife and son are not looking. I just wish I was a lot younger. A middle age man and a skateboard don’t mix.

The deck is the flat part of the skateboard – the part where you stand on. So naturally it is the most important part of your set up. Different decks are best for different types of skateboarding, so the one that’s best is the one that accomplishes what gives you the most pleasure. Whatever type of deck you choose, remember that durability is an important issue. Yes, they can be replaced, but you don’t want to do that too often.

Skate decks can be damaged by rough play. If that happens make sure to take care of it as soon as possible. Deck chips often occur after a hard fall. A chip can be fixed by sanding it down until it is gone. If left unchecked, a simple chip can worsen to a point where you will need to get a new deck.

A few years ago, the skateboard was all the rage. When kids now can’t live without a gaming console, kids then had the skateboard. With a thin wooden or fiber glass board with four wheels at the bottom, the rider maneuvers the road using the force that his leg creates to push the board forward. There were different designs to personalize those skateboards. And those with skateboards make their boards unique according to their taste.

But times have changes. And although the concept of the skateboard is still here, the design has changed. Today, the new skateboard is called longboard. From its name, the longboard is longer than a regular skateboard. It is said that people used the longboard as an alternative to surfing. A complete longboard can provide the fun that surfing can create without being in the water.
