Skateboarding is a sport that has gained popularity among young and old alike. Riders wear shoes that are designed for use in skateboarding. Many characteristics of a skate shoe are intended to increase its durability since skate shoes are always in contact with the roughness of a skateboard’s grip tape. Skaters tend to go through shoes fast which is why they have to buy pairs that will last as long as possible. If someone were to ask me which was more fun, a quad roller skate or an inline skate I would have to go with the former. As someone who grew up playing with these fast four rollers, I am inclined to get more enjoyment out of quad roller skates. It may be because I am more biased towards the quads but it could also be because of the fun memories I had when I was growing up. I have tried inline skates but for me nothing beats the entertainment I derive from quad skates.

My favorite type of quad roller skate was the one with the break in front. It was the one where you had to tilt your feet forward in order to stop. I remember mine having springs attached at the wheel base to get better shock absorption. When I look around these days at quad roller skates, I look at them with fond memories. This is what led me to purchase brand new skates!

Seasoned roller skaters will tell you that skateboard wheels can make a lot of difference in your skateboarding experience. You have to contend with different sizes and different formulas. STF for street, SPF for skate park and DTF for ditch skateboarding. These are different styles that resist flat spotting. This is a situation where one side of a wheel gets a flattened spot that tends to ruin the wheel. There are several brands that can be depended on.

The boots that come with the skates is another thing to consider. The choice of boots is not about fashion; it is about what will provide the best support to a kids roller skate. We would imagine that boots with padding are the best, but that is not necessarily so. Unpadded boots made of leather tend to hug and feet and stretch as needed. This can be an advantage. My nephew Neil is 8 years old. He is very active and is into sports. He is also an only child so his parents practically spoil him with love, attention and a lot of toys. Neil has all the latest toys, gadgets and the coolest clothes. He runs around the neighborhood in his roller skates that feature a lighted skate wheel.

Neil’s lighted skate wheel was bought separately from his roller skates. His fancy roller skates were designed so that you could easily change the wheels. You could pair a colored skate wheel with a lighted skate wheel. Neil’s lighted skate wheel was neon green; it looked really cool and flashy. Two weeks later, Neil showed me his new skate wheels, this time they were neon red.
