Children love Hot Dots. It is a fun way of learning. They are the regular flash cards turned into individualized tutors with the use of special pens. Students touch the pen on the correct answer and get a positive response. The pens give one of nine constructive responses. The children cannot wait if they will get an encouraging response if they mark the right answer or be ‘booed’ for missing it. The Hot Dots work great for small groups.

Phonics hot dots flash cards reinforce skills essential for reading success. After mastering the skills in the first three sets, children will be able to decode, or sound out, hundreds of 3- and 4-letter words. As they progress through the program, they acquire new decoding skills - so they’re reading in no time. With the use of special pens, they can play/study on their own or with the supervision of a parent or a teacher. It is a perfect tool for children who needs more practice in their reading skills.

Everyday after reading the newspapers, my father normally answers the crossword puzzle. This hobby became a daily routine since he retired from work. He enjoys this pastime so much that we make it a point to leave the crossword puzzle for him to fill. Consequently, he looks forward to the delivery of the newspaper to check if he got all the answers right.

Just like her grandfather, my niece loves puzzles. Unlike my dad, she likes jigsaw puzzles the best. Among her favored ones are princesses’ puzzles, bible puzzles, action puzzles and other popular character puzzles. We encourage her in this hobby as puzzles are known to be brain teasers. In fact, puzzles help the mind to be more methodical.
